About the Award

Nominations closed Monday, December 15.

National Wildlife Federation (NWF) annually honors outstanding individuals who volunteer by giving of their time, their talents and their service, to support NWF, the state affiliates, and to building the conservation movement. The 2008 NWF Volunteer of the Year award recognizes the contributions during the calendar year of 2008 of  active NWF and NWF affiliate volunteers who have gone above and beyond in advancing NWF's mission through service. NWFs mission is to "inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future."

 

Who may be nominated?

Volunteers can be nominated in the following categories:

1.      NWF Volunteer of the Year (active NWF volunteer during 2008),

2.      Affiliate Volunteer of the Year (active volunteer with a NWF state affiliate organization during 2008), or

3.      Community Volunteer of the Year (recognizing an active NWF or affiliate volunteer that has leveraged partnerships and/or community resources for success in their NWF volunteering in 2008)

Who may nominate?

NWF staff members, board members, volunteers and partners. NWF affiliate staff members, board members, volunteers and partners. Individuals may self nominate.

Who makes the selection?

A national selection committee comprised of NWF staff members and NWF affiliate representatives will review nominations based on the criteria described above and on the nomination form. Award winners and nominators will be notified of decisions in early February 2009.

How is the winner recognized?

Winners will attend the NWF Annual Meeting to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania being held April 29-May 2, 2009, including participation in the annual Volunteer Service Project. Awards will be presented at the awards banquet, usually held on a Saturday night. Announcement of winners and brief highlight of accomplishments will be publicized via NWF's website, newsletters and other media outlets as appropriate. The winner's travel, lodging and participation fee for annual meeting are covered by NWF.
